Portfolio
Following are just a few of the websites I’ve worked on for clients. Each project includes a description of its scope and any aspects of particular note, such as distinctive content, design elements, or functionality for visitors and/or editors.
-
Davis Square Architects
Replacement of an existing website that had become difficult to update. Many of DSA’s numerous projects are featured on the site, so the main projects page includes filters to find projects by type and location. I also developed a custom map showing projects by municipality, and a mechanism to update the map automatically when a new project is added to the site. Site design by Caitlin Grant at DSA.
-
Weston Media Center
Replacement of an existing site. The rebuild emphasized creating an eye-catching design and improved site structure, in order to spotlight Weston Media’s video productions and their mission to connect the community. More recently, I added the Weston Hub to the site, a community calendar to which members of the public can submit local events.
-
Weston Forest & Trail Association
Reorganization and design update for an existing site. For instance, many static pages had been created to publicize events; I converted these to blog posts in a news section. I also updated fonts and colors to make them consistent across the site and to increase contrast for greater accessibility.
-
Weston Historical Society
Conversion of a sizable static site to a CMS platform to make editing the site easier, along with design updates. Added a great deal of new content: for example, large photo galleries showcasing WHS’s collections, plus all of the society’s Bulletins and Newsletters going back to its founding in the 1960s, thanks to their digitization by Digital Commonwealth.
-
Wedgwood Society of Boston
Renovation of an existing website with many structural, content, and design updates. One addition is the Members Zone, where, among other features, WSB members can post items they want to sell or are looking for. Because some pages include multiple frequently updated sections, each new piece of content for them is added as a discrete post, which is then automatically embedded in the appropriate page section — so that the page itself doesn’t need to be edited.
-
Marga Mends
New website for my wife Marga’s mending business, designed with a simple stitch motif. The gallery features a large number of projects, so in similar fashion to the DSA site, it presents various filtering and sorting options. Page editing is configured to provide a wide range of layout options while retaining visual consistency.
-
Frank C. Hamm, Rustic Artist
Visual refresh of an existing site in order to better showcase Frank’s terrific work, along with content reorganization and additions. I designed the new home page so that photos of the pieces fill the entire view. To make this work well on all devices, the home page’s layout varies based on the browser window’s size and aspect ratio.
-
Margaret Fuller: Transatlantic Revolutionary
New website to promote a documentary on the underappreciated 19th-century polymath and feminist Margaret Fuller. Developed in collaboration with film director Jonathan Schwartz as an immersive experience illustrating why Fuller deserves to be better known.
